David King Jones

Though occasionally enveloped by the vocal harmony that occupies center stage for the better part of the track’s running time, the piano is nonetheless a tremendous agent of evocation in the new single “The Covid 19 Christmas Song” from David King Jones. While Jones’ lead vocal steals away most of the spotlight for itself on a couple of crucial occasions in this performance, scarcely is there a moment in which his verse isn’t wrapping around the instrumental faceting to forge something chillingly strong and melodically spellbinding.

This is full-bodied minor key balladry of the best kind, and if you dig R&B, I highly recommend checking it out. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dcjones4life/ The lead vocal here is really direct and piercing, making the stock beat tangible to us in a way that it probably wouldn’t have been without the additional luster from the mic.

There’s not a lot of synthetic buffering between the words and the harmonies that usher their narrative forth; in fact, I’d make the argument that this is one of the better examples of a truly stacked - yet cohesive - piece of pop music that doesn’t ask for us to witness a slow and steady devolution into retro rhythm and rhyme. That’s more common than it should be in 2020, and the pandemic is not the reason why. This isn’t going to be a normal holiday season for any of us, but if you’re looking for a nice touch of familiarity to help make this winter just a little bit easier to get through, David King Jones might be the right player for you to look up this December.

“The Covid 19 Christmas Song” is definitely an unfiltered analysis of the current perils we face as a society looking to finally get past the last bit of struggle this year has left, and moreover, it’s a great way of getting introduced to Jones’ phenomenal skillset.
